Another week means another set of updates and features in the world of social media. Here’s our pick of the top stories.
Facebook recommends businesses in chat
It seems that Facebook are now testing out a chat feature on desktop which will recommend businesses that may be of interest to you based on your previous activity. This could be particularly interesting to businesses as they consider how they can make sure that their business is listed. One way we can see of doing this is to make sure that there is a clear connection between your business and your audience although it’s hard to know how the Facebook algorithms will work. Either way, it’s an interesting prospect!
Instagram’s Adding the Ability to Share Stories via Direct Messages
Instagram have created a way to make sure your audience see your story, by offering you the option to share it with friends or a group through direct messages. This could be particularly interesting for businesses as Instagram looks to increase the daily use of DM which is already at a reported 375 million a day. One advantage of DM’s being that they allow users to post web links thus creating a way to direct traffic from Instagram directly to your own website.
Facebook Active Users
Facebook appears to be testing out a new active users notifier in the comments section by placing a green dot next to users who are online. Although this is not a completely new idea, with notifiers already present on several platforms including Facebook chat, it will allow opportunities for more instant conversation and responses. It does however create issues for businesses as it could mean users will look to expect an almost instant response to queries. Not sure how your business will manage that?
