Social Media Roundup Week 19
Instagram hits 25 million active business users, Facebook targets the under 13 market with the introduction of Messenger Kids and Instagram continues to develop stories on their platform.
Instagram provides new Stories Highlights and Stories Archive
Instagram looks to introduce a new feature which will enable users to display their Instagram stories on their profile. Stories highlights will appear in a new section below your profile photo in your bio and you will be able to add any Stories from your archive. To make it easier for users, all new stories created will now be added to the archive and can then be shared from there. You will be able to choose which stories you share and only these will be seen on your profile.
The idea from Instagram is that it will enable users to build up a more informative profile about themselves and the advantage for users is they will be able to cherry pick their best content to continually share. An interesting prospect!
Facebook launches ‘Messenger kids’
In a move that will no doubt split parents, Facebook is launching a new messenger app which will enable children under the age of 13 to communicate with their friends online. A cynical view would be that this is simply a way of introducing the platform to youngsters who will, at some point, become the next generation of consumers and will help to ensure that they choose Facebook when they do so. The other side of the coin is the fact that many of these youngsters are already engaging with social media and online content so why not provide them with a safer platform on which to communicate. Indeed, parents will have to download the app and will also have control over who their child can communicate with through it. We are sure kids will love the interactive and fun features although it remains to be seen the impact it will have.
Instagram reaches 25 million active business users.
Instagram is currently the fastest growing social media platform and has recently reported that there are now 25 million active business users on its network. The following statistics clearly show why it is such a valuable and popular tool for businesses.
- Over 80% of accounts on Instagram follow a business

- Two-thirds of profile visits to businesses come from people who aren’t following that business
